Specialties: Complex corporate, commercial and regulatory problem solver Robert's experience is in resolving high profile complex corporate, commercial and regulatory issues in many areas of commerce. He has participated in the development of the South African law in several major areas, and has acted as an expert on SA law in other jurisdictions. He has been briefed on restructurings and the consequences of some of the largest corporate insolvencies, virtually every aspect of banking, and on a wide variety of commercial agreements. He represented parts of the banking community on business rescue. He has acted for foreign governments, auditing firms, educational institutions and insurers. He has also been involved in a number of complex and lengthy commercial negotiations and re-negotiations. He has travelled extensively for clients and with other lawyers across the globe. He is a member of the International Bar Association. Robert also has considerable experience in representing parties before regulatory bodies in high profile matters. He is experienced in crisis management. Robert has a Journalism and Media Studies degree, a Bachelor of Laws degree, a post-graduate qualification in Company Law, a Masters degree in Banking and Stock Exchanges Law, and a Masters in South Africa Tax. He has twice been elected to the Supervisory Board of his firm, and has sat on virtually every committee of the firm. He was elected managing director of its Cape Town office, and appointed leader of its commercial team. Robert was recognised in the Chambers Global review as a sound and respected practitioner with clear insight and a commercial bent. He does not get flustered easily and is able to take a complicated case from A to Z". He has also been recognised in Legal 500 for his work with banks, by PLC as a recommended practitioner in restructuring and insolvency, and by Best Lawyers.
